Swift methodology for agile development of digital learning units at the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León
Main Article Content
Abstract
Between 2022 and 2025, Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León experienced a sustained increase in the number of learning units offered in blended and fully online modalities, which intensified the complexity of the processes of course design and digital resource production. In this institutional setting, the Dirección de Educación Digital designed and implemented the Swift methodology as a technological service aimed at improving the coordination of the development of digital learning units through multidisciplinary teams, aligned with the institutional Digital Education Model and the 2024–2040 Development Plan.
The study initially described the methodological design and operation of Swift during the June 2023–December 2024 period; for this technical report, the analysis of its impact in 2025 is also included. The phases of preliminary analysis, collaborative development, technical implementation and piloting were documented, as well as the definition of roles, workflows and control artefacts, including single project timelines, communication matrices and quality checklists. The methodology was grounded in recent approaches to agile methods and organizational change in educational settings, which made it possible to adapt principles of segmented work, iterative cycles and continuous feedback to the university context.
The results showed a reduction in development timelines towards intervals of three to four months for projects carried out in parallel, which previously required longer cycles of up to six months; in a context in which the department has managed to cope with a demand that, as of today, has practically doubled in comparison to 2022. These indicators, together with qualitative evidence regarding coordination across areas, suggested that the Swift methodology helped organize processes, improve internal communication, and strengthen a work culture focused on continuous improvement in the management of digital education.
